5 Tips to Help You Thrive While Working from Home!

Working remotely as a Contractor has its perks – the flexibility, no commute, and the ability to work in comfy clothes are just a few! That said, despite the many benefits working from home offers, it can also come with challenges like distraction, lack of structure, and potential isolation. To help you stay productive, we’re sharing our five tips to thrive in a remote setup!

  1. Create a Dedicated Workspace

A well-structured, dedicated workplace can help create a mental and physical boundary between your work and personal life. Designate a specific area in your home for work and invest in a comfortable chair and good desk to ensure you’re ergonomically supported – your back will thank you! Good lighting, minimal distractions and a clutter free workspace can help keep focus too.

  1. Establish a Routine

Set clear boundaries by defining your working hours and sticking to them! In setting your start and end time each day, you can be accountable for a better work/life balance. Consider preparing for the day as if you were heading into the office – a short walk in the morning to replace your commute can set you up nicely for the day. Don’t forget to take regular breaks for stretching (as well as coffee!) so that you maintain your energy levels and prevent burnout.

  1. Communicate & Socialise

Being intentional about building social connections, networking and community will be important. As you don’t have every day in-office chats or shared lunchbreaks, you may want to schedule regular check-ins with peers and colleagues. Strong communication fosters trust and collaboration, so don’t forget to prioritise staying connected.

  2. Prioritise Self-Care

We know that sitting still all day isn’t ideal for your body or mind! Making an effort to move around regularly and stayed hydrated will help with focus and energy levels. Beyond physical health, mental well-being is crucial. Take breaks, step away from screens when needed, and engage in activities that help you recharge. Whether it’s meditation, listening to music, or reading, prioritising self-care is important as you balance work and life.

  3. Claim Those Business Expenses

You’re running a business – so don’t forget to claim your business expense costs. If you’re working from home, you may have purchased office furniture, equipment or have daily costs, such as lighting and heating. Keep track of receipts and consult with a financial professional to ensure you’re claiming tax reliefs available to you.
